Exchange Database Monitoring Reports

The Exchange Database refers to the physical location where user mailboxes are created and stored. Each user in the Active Directory can be assigned more than one mailbox, which then gets stored as an .EDB (Exchange database) file. Apart from storing mailboxes, this database houses Public Folders for enabling access to shared content.

Exchange 2013 has made it possible to create a database with unique properties and therefore the behavior of the databases within an Exchange environment may differ. So, admins need to closely monitor the databases to track and analyze the key parameters that define its properties.

Exchange Reporter Plus addresses this need by monitoring Exchange databases and providing a comprehensive reporting platform for fundamental Exchange functions.

Exchange search health

Exchange Reporter Plus uses Search Time as a parameter to show how efficiently the server performs a search activity in a database. It runs the Test-ExchangeSearch cmdlet to test this functionality. The report then displays the success or failure of all search activities performed within the database. This feature, therefore, allows admins to easily diagnose the issues in the Exchange search functionality.

MAPI connectivity

MAPI connectivity

This feature allows admins to test MAPI connectivity to the Exchange database. It uses the Test-MapiConnectivity cmdlet to access a mailbox for verification. Exchange Reporter Plus maintains a list of all connection attempts and reports the success or failure of all connectivity tests carried out within a reporting period. A successful connection validates the functionality of the server database.

View a comprehensive list of information regarding all backups of your Exchange database, regardless of your backup application. This report includes details on the last full, copy, incremental, and differential backups of your Exchange database, along with the number of days since each backup was performed. This report covers all backup-specific information for Exchange Server 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016 environments.

Database Monitoring Reports is a much needed feature addition for Exchange Reporter Plus. This web-based monitoring tool allows admins to analyze the functionality of their Exchange database without having to script queries on Windows PowerShell each time. The reports are configurable in Exchange 2010, 2013 and 2016 environments. They can also be exported to a destination folder, and even emailed in desired formats for records.
